Fairy Arrives For Back To School
My boys invented the Birthday fairy who flies into our house every Birthday eve leaving behind a gift in my children's bedroom that they wake-up to open on their Birthday morning - this tradition has become a highlight of my children. So, I have been thinking that our fairy should arrive on Back To School eve and begin a new tradition of fairy visits? Maybe even leave a new fun school supply or lunch box.
The plan is to have a small yet useful and even needed gift wrapped in a lunch bag delivered to my children's rooms while they are fast asleep on Back To School eve - and when they wake what a fun surprise it will be to begin their first day of school morning off.
I decided to Google this idea and thanks to Google I found that my friend over at Happy Home Fairy had this very same idea last year and even created a fun Back To School Fairy note that we can print off for free. Click here to get your free printable.

On My Way - Nutrilite Blogger Event
I'm leaving on a jet plane! 24/7 Moms was invited to attend an exclusive event to learn all about Amway's Nutrilite vitamins – the global leader of vitamins and supplements worldwide. Trisha is sending me – Lori – to go soak up all the amazing information (lucky me!!) and bring it back to share with all our moms!
I will start out Tuesday at the Nutrilite Center for Optimal Health in Buena Park, CA. There I will take a comprehensive health assesment, attend some fabulous presentations and go on a behind-the-scenes tour of the world’s largest-selling supplement brand, including R&D and manufacturing. They even have a fabulous dinner planned at a restaurant that serves seasonal, sustainable, locally sourced, but globally inspired cuisine. On Wednesday we are heading to Trout Lake Farm - one of the largest certified organic farms in North America - in Ephrata,WA for a tour and sustainability presentation.
I have to tell you – I am so excited to go on this trip! I am most excited to for the health assessment which will include an innovative genetic test to determine the eating and exercise plan best for my body, according to my genotype. I 've always struggled to lose those “last five pounds” and would love any information that might help me along. I am also interested learning about quality of the Nutrilite vitamins and supplements and how they might help my family in our overall nutrition.
When I get back I promise to share all I learned with you guys – and I'll be tweeting during the trip – stay tuned!
* We received an all expense paid trip to visit Buena Park, CA and Ephrata, WA. No financial compensation was received.

MOM Tip: Simplify the daily what to wear task with your children by taking the time each Saturday or Sunday to choose and label the upcoming school weeks outfits. The Weary Warrior - "Could Do's" - Part 1 of 2
There, in the middle of the chaotic
surroundings, lay my comrade. She wearily
low crawls to safety, guzzling the lukewarm beverage from her canteen. This warrior knows the battlefield and
has refused to surrender, for her troops and the mission need her. She is weary, exhausted and outnumbered
by more vigorous forces. After a
deep breath, she thanks God for the Starbucks Breakfast Blend as it provides
the energy required to navigate the next landmine field: homework, soccer, dinner, bedtime and
laundry. She is defending the home
front, alone. I reach out my hand,
lift her up and pass her a chicken with something-else-in-it casserole. She smiles. One casserole was all it took for her to realize she can endure
one more mission on the battlefield.
As our country remains at war, a
staggering number of families are being separated for long periods of
time. “Solider is a position.
Warrior is an attitude.”[i] I interviewed three true warrior girlfriends,
all mother to three; Kim, Missy and Linda about what helped and what didn’t
while their husbands were deployed.
I compiled a list of could-do’s
because we all could do something to
aid our friends as they defend the home front. Here’s the “high five” your friend just might need!
1.
Feed the troops.
This was the top
response! FEED THE TROOPS! Bring
an unexpected meal. Or, organize
friends/neighbors and drop off the meal schedule with dates and menu so your
friend can plan the other nights around those meals. Missy said, “Dinner and
homework time are close together so it was such a blessing to not have to
juggle a meal as well!” If you
can’t cook or have limited time, mail your friend a gift card to her favorite
restaurant. Even, pick up a cooked rotisserie chicken, bread and a salad from
the salad bar and drop it off (it’ll be better than the peanut butter and jelly
sandwich that your friend would go to bed feeling guilty about that night!)
Put together a
movie and pizza night basket. Get
a gift card for your friend’s favorite pizza and movie rental place. Put some
popcorn and candy in there and let your friend have a pizza, movie night with
the kids at home!
2.
Be willing to low crawl.
Take care of the
“low crawlers”, her kids, for just an hour or two a week, with no expectation
of reciprocity. Request that your
child and friend’s child be placed on the same sports team and carpool for her! Figure out what your friend’s “thing”
(scrapbooking, running, book club, Bunco) is. Offer to faithfully watch her kids that night each month and
let her do her “thing”.
3.
Keep a watchful eye on the morale.
Find out when your
friend’s birthday and anniversary are and do something, anything, to make it special (flowers, chocolate). Don’t forget Mother’s Day and holidays too!
Shoot an email
over saying, “I’m thinking of you!” or “You’re doing a great job managing
everything!” It’s nice to read
affirming emails after a long day!
Email a bunch of
friends that she knows, and some she doesn’t, and have them mail cards and
emails of encouragement and appreciation. She can reread those cards over and
over to get a boost! A little appreciation can go a long way.
4.
Do regular radio checks.
Call and sincerely
ask how her day/week was. Allow
her to vent frustrations and listen when she is at her wit’s end. Kim said, “A lot of wives feel added
stress by believing they need to appear as though they’ve got it all together.
Just being allowed to vent frustrations about her kids/husband/neighbors/etc is
helpful!”
5.
Recognize the enemy tactic to isolate and
attack.
Missy said
weekends were a big one for her, “They can be lonely because most friends are
with their own family, try to include them in any family outings.” Linda offered, “Get a movie and bring it
over to your girlfriend’s house as nighttime can get lonely.” (Your friend can
have girlfriend time without needing the expense of a babysitter!)
If you want to support the troops overseas, then protect, care and
nurture their blessings back home.
We all can’t do everything, but can do something. God bless our troops and their famili

Mom Tip: 7 Days, 7 Ways to Get Set for the New School Year
The big yellow bus is about to pull up for the new school year, and that means big changes to
the family routine and lots of new things on your to-do list. Kati
Chevaux, organizational expert and editor at Cozi.com, the No. 1 online
and mobile family calendar, recommends breaking down back-to-school
preparation into simple daily tasks to keep it manageable. To help,
she’s created a one-a-day checklist for the crucial week before school
begins.
Day 1 – Refresh the calendar
The school year is chock-full of calendar events: school functions, athletic events, classroom parties, library due dates, gym days, music lessons and parent-teacher conferences. Get a calendar to record everything so you aren’t tracking down flyers, paper schedules, emails and notes from school for your day-to-day planning. Cozi makes it easy with an online calendar that the whole family can access either online or via their mobile phone (iPhone, Android, BlackBerry) so families have their to-do lists at their fingertips no matter where they are. Even better, you can sync your Cozi calendar with school district event calendars and your home calendars.Cozi lets you send reminders and agendas to keep everyone on the same page.
Day 2 – Inventory the kids’ closets
You don’t have to go on a huge shopping spree, but make sure each child has enough clothes for the first few weeks of school. Go through the kids’ closets, dressers and storage bins of clothes. Then make it fun by having a “fashion show” to find out which clothes fit which kids and who needs to buy what. This saves money and time since you aren’t heading out to buy new outfits for a child who can now wear an older sibling’s jeans that are still in good condition.
Day 3 – Create a morning checklist for the kids
Ever get frustrated that you have to remind the kids of seemingly basic tasks (brush your teeth, get dressed, get your backpack together) every single morning? Thought so! Put it all on a list and hand it over to the kids to use each morning. You can stop nagging because the responsibility of completing the list becomes the child’s. Just don't allow play time or TV time until the tasks are done. (Here's our morning checklist on Cozi: http://www.cozi.com/live-simply/school-morning-checklist)
Day 4 – Set up the time-to-go area
This is for backpacks, homework projects, shoes, coats, lunch sacks and anything else besides the clothes on their back needed to get out the door. Have the kids ALWAYS store these items in the time-to-go area and make sure it’s all there before they go to bed. It might take some time to get everyone in the habit, but getting out the door without a last-minute scramble for the hat your son can't leave without is well worth it.
Day 5 – Set up the homework routine
Will there be a dedicated homework area? When will homework get done – right after school, anytime before bed or in the morning before school for early birds? Letting the kids know what you expect for where, when and how homework gets done means fewer daily struggles over the task.
Day 6 – Make a list of favorite family meals
With summer’s end comes more structure to the evening schedule. One of the best things you can do to make the daily dinner decision easier is to keep a list of go-to meals that are easy to make and the whole family loves. Go a step further and plan out two weeks of family dinners so you don’t have to decide each day what’s for dinner during those busy first weeks of school. And you’ll end up with a treasure chest of ideas for the future when 5 o’clock rolls around and you haven’t a clue what to make.
Day 7 – Decide what you’ll do with schoolwork and art
Otherwise, you might end up with huge bins of papers and art projects that you couldn’t bring yourself to throw out the day they came home. Some ideas: keep one piece of art or school item for each child each week, use one container for the year and limit what you save to what fits in the container, display new art as it comes home in easy-to-use frames or with clips.
